An upper front and jetstreak, associated with a rapid shortwave trough crossing Tasmania, helped whip up strong, hot northwesterly surface winds on Sunday, causing extreme fire dangers with active fires in central and eastern Victoria.

WeatherTheatre SceneOne Analysis captured the upper front west of Tasmania at 9-2-2014-0Z, revealed as a tropopause fold extending some two-thirds the depth of the troposphere.
